Sentence of
Scripture
The kingdom of God is at hand;
repent, and believe in the gospel.
Mark 1.15
7 New Every Morning Is the Love Melcombe
New every morning is
the love
our wakening and
uprising prove;
through sleep and
darkness safely brought,
restored to life and
power and thought.
New mercies, each
returning day,
hover around us
while we pray;
new perils past, new
sins forgiven,
new thoughts of God,
new hopes of heaven.
If on our daily
course our mind
be set to hallow all
we find,
new treasures still,
of countless price,
God will provide for
sacrifice.
The trivial round,
the common task,
will furnish all we
need to ask,
room to deny
ourselves, a road
to bring us daily
nearer God.
Only, O Lord, in thy
dear love
fit us for perfect
rest above;
and help us, this
and every day,
to live more nearly
as we pray.
Exhortation
DEARLY beloved, the
Scripture moveth us in sundry places to acknowledge and confess our manifold
sins and wickedness; and that we should not dissemble nor cloke them before the
face of Almighty God our heavenly Father; but confess them with an humble,
lowly, penitent, and obedient heart; to the end that we may obtain forgiveness
of the same, by his infinite goodness and mercy. And although we ought at all times humbly to
acknowledge our sins before God; yet ought we most chiefly so to do, when we
assemble and meet together to render thanks for the great benefits that we have
received at his hands, to set forth his most worthy praise, to hear his most
holy Word, and to ask those things which are requisite and necessary, as well
for the body as the soul. Wherefore I
pray and beseech you, as many as are here present, to accompany me with a pure
heart and humble voice unto the throne of the heavenly grace.
Confession
ALMIGHTY and most
merciful Father, We have erred and strayed from thy ways like lost sheep, We
have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts, We have
offended against thy holy laws, We have left undone those things which we ought
to have one, And we have done those things which we ought not to have done; And
there is no health in us. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable
offenders. Spare thou them, O God, which confess their faults. Restore thou
them that are penitent; According to thy promises declared unto humankind in
Christ Jesu our Lord. And grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, That we
may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, To the glory of thy holy
Name. Amen.
Absolution
ALMIGHTY God, the
Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who desireth not the death of a sinner, but
rather that they may turn from his wickedness, and live, hath given power and
commandment to his Ministers, to declare and pronounce to his people, being
penitent, the Absolution and Remission of their sins. He pardoneth and absolveth all them that
truly repent and unfeignedly believe his holy Gospel. Wherefore we beseech him to grant us true
repentance and his Holy Spirit, that those things may please him which we do at
this present, and that the rest of our life hereafter may be pure and holy; so
that at the last we may come to his eternal joy; through Jesus Christ our
Lord. Amen.
The Lord’s
Prayer
OUR Father who art
in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth
as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; And forgive us our
trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against us; And lead us not into
temptation, But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and
the glory, For ever and ever. Amen.
O LORD, open thou our lips;
And our mouth shall show forth thy praise.
O God, make speed to save us;
O Lord, make haste to help us.
GLORY be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the
Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen.
Praise ye the Lord;
The Lord’s Name be praised.
VENITE,
EXULTEMUS DOMINO Psalm 95
COME, let us sing unto the LORD:
let us heartily rejoice in the strength of our
salvation.
Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving,
and show ourselves glad in him with psalms.
For the LORD is a great God,
and a great King above all gods.
In his hand are all the corners of the earth:
and the strength of the hills is his also
The sea is his,
and he made it:
and his hands prepared the dry land.
O COME, let us worship, and fall down,
and kneel before the LORD our Maker.
For he is the Lord our God;
and we are the people of his pasture,
and the sheep of his hand.
TO-DAY, O that ye would hear his voice:
‘Harden not your hearts as in the Provocation,
and as in the day of Temptation in the
wilderness;
When your fathers tempted me,
proved me, and saw my works.
Forty years long was I grieved with that generation,
and said,
“It is a people that do err in their hearts,
for they have not known my ways”;
Unto whom I sware in my wrath,
that they should not enter into my rest.’
GLORY be to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning,
is now, and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen.
Psalm 116.1, 10-17
Dilexi, quoniam
MY delight is in the LORD,
because he hath heard the voice of my
prayer;
I TRUSTED even when I
spake;
but I was sore
troubled:
I said in my haste,
‘All men are liars.’
What reward shall I
give unto the LORD
for all the benefits
that he hath done unto me?
I will take the cup
of salvation,
and call upon the Name of the LORD.
I will pay my vows
unto the LORD
in the presence of
all his people.
Right dear in the
sight of the LORD
is the death of his
saints.
Behold, O LORD, how
that I am thy servant:
I am thy servant and
the son of thy handmaid;
thou hast broken my
bonds in sunder.
I will offer to thee
the sacrifice of thanks- giving,
and will call upon
the Name of the LORD.
I will pay my vows
unto the LORD
in the presence of
all his people;
Even in the courts of
the LORD’S house,
and in the midst of
thee, O Jerusalem.
Praise the LORD.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son
and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning,
is now, and ever shall be,
world without end.
Amen.
Genesis 18.1-15, (21.1-7
The First Lesson in
written in the Book of Genesis in the eighteenth chapter beginning at the first
verse.
The
Lord appeared to Abraham by the oaks of Mamre, as he sat at the entrance of his
tent in the heat of the day. He looked up and saw three men standing near him.
When he saw them, he ran from the tent entrance to meet them, and bowed down to
the ground. He said, ‘My lord, if I find favour with you, do not pass by your
servant. Let a little water be brought, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves
under the tree. Let me bring a little bread, that you may refresh yourselves,
and after that you may pass on—since you have come to your servant.’ So they
said, ‘Do as you have said.’ And Abraham hastened into the tent to Sarah, and
said, ‘Make ready quickly three measures of choice flour, knead it, and make
cakes.’ Abraham ran to the herd, and took a calf, tender and good, and gave it
to the servant, who hastened to prepare it. Then he took curds and milk and the
calf that he had prepared, and set it before them; and he stood by them under
the tree while they ate.
They
said to him, ‘Where is your wife Sarah?’ And he said, ‘There, in the tent.’
Then one said, ‘I will surely return to you in due season, and your wife Sarah
shall have a son.’ And Sarah was listening at the tent entrance behind him. Now
Abraham and Sarah were old, advanced in age; it had ceased to be with Sarah
after the manner of women. So Sarah laughed to herself, saying, ‘After I have
grown old, and my husband is old, shall I have pleasure?’ The Lord said to
Abraham, ‘Why did Sarah laugh, and say, “Shall I indeed bear a child, now that
I am old?” Is anything too wonderful for the Lord? At the set time I will
return to you, in due season, and Sarah shall have a son.’ But Sarah denied,
saying, ‘I did not laugh’; for she was afraid. He said, ‘Oh yes, you did
laugh.’
The
Lord dealt with Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did for Sarah as he had
promised. Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the time of
which God had spoken to him. Abraham gave the name Isaac to his son whom Sarah
bore him. And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac when he was eight days old, as
God had commanded him. Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was
born to him. Now Sarah said, ‘God has brought laughter for me; everyone who
hears will laugh with me.’ And she said, ‘Who would ever have said to Abraham that
Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age.’
Here
endeth the First Lesson.
TE DEUM
LAUDAMUS
WE praise thee, O God;
we acknowledge thee to be the Lord.
All earth doth worship thee,
the Father everlasting.
To thee all Angels cry aloud,
the Heavens and all the Powers therein.
To thee Cherubim and Seraphim continually do cry,
Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of hosts;
Heaven and earth are full of the Majesty of thy glory.
The glorious company of the Apostles praise thee;
The goodly fellowship of the Prophets praise thee;
The noble army of Martyrs praise thee;
The holy Church throughout all the world
doth acknowledge thee,
The Father, of an infinite Majesty;
Thine honourable, true, and only Son;
Also the Holy Ghost, the Comforter.
THOU art the King of Glory, O Christ.
Thou art the everlasting Son of the Father.
When thou tookest upon thee to deliver us,
thou didst not abhor the Virgin’s womb.
When thou hadst overcome the sharpness of death,
thou didst open the kingdom of heaven to all
believers.
Thou sittest at the right hand of God,
in the glory of the Father.
We believe that thou shalt come to be our Judge.
We therefore pray thee, help thy servants,
whom thou hast redeemed with thy precious blood.
Make them to be numbered with thy Saints,
in glory everlasting.
O LORD, save
thy people, and bless thine heritage;
Govern them, and lift them up for ever.
Day by day we magnify thee;
And we worship thy Name, ever world without end.
Vouchsafe, O Lord, to keep us this day without
sin.
O Lord, have mercy upon us, have mercy upon us.
O Lord, let thy mercy lighten upon us,
as our trust is in thee.
O Lord, in thee have I trusted:
let me never be confounded.
Romans 5.1-8
The second lesson is written in Paul’s letter
to the Romans in the fifth chapter,
beginning at the first verse.
Therefore, since
we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus
Christ, through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand;
and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God. And not only that, but we
also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and
endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not
disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the
Holy Spirit that has been given to us.
For while we were
still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. Indeed, rarely will
anyone die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person someone
might actually dare to die. But God proves his love for us in that while we
still were sinners Christ died for us.
Here endeth the second lesson.
BENEDICTUS St Luke 1. 68
BLESSED be the Lord God of Israel;
for he hath visited, and redeemed his people;
And hath raised up a mighty salvation for us,
in the house of his servant David;
As he spake by the mouth of his holy Prophets,
which have been since the world began;
That we should be saved from our enemies,
and from the hands of all that hate us;
To perform the mercy promised to our forefathers,
and to remember his holy covenant;
To perform the oath which he sware
to our forefather Abraham,
that he would grant us
That we being delivered out of the hands of our
enemies
might serve him without fear,
In holiness and righteousness before him,
all the days of our life.
AND thou, child, shalt be called the Prophet of the
Highest:
for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord
to prepare his ways;
To give knowledge of salvation unto his people
for the remission of their sins;
Through the tender mercy of our God;
whereby the day-spring from on high hath visited us;
To give light to them that sit in darkness,
and in the shadow of death,
and to guide our feet into the way of peace.
GLORY be to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen.
478 Almighty God, Thy Word Is Cast Albano
Almighty God, your word is cast
like seed into the ground;
now let the dew of heav'n descend,
and righteous fruits abound.
Let not the foe of Christ and man
this holy seed remove,
but give it root in ev'ry heart
to bring forth fruits of love.
Let not the world's deceitful cares
the rising plant destroy,
but let it yield a hundredfold
the fruits of peace and joy.
Oft as the precious seed is sown,
your quick'ning grace bestow,
that all whose souls the truth receive,
its saving pow'r may know.
Matthew
9.35-10.8, (9-23)
The Holy Gospel is written in the Nineth chapter of
the Gospel according to Matthew beginning at the thirty fifth verse.
Glory be to thee, O Lord.
Then Jesus went
about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and
proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and curing every disease and every
sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were
harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his
disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few; therefore ask
the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest.’
Then Jesus summoned
his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them
out, and to cure every disease and every sickness. These are the names of the
twelve apostles: first, Simon, also known as Peter, and his brother Andrew;
James son of Zebedee, and his brother John; Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and
Matthew the tax-collector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; Simon the
Cananaean, and Judas Iscariot, the one who betrayed him.
These twelve Jesus
sent out with the following instructions: ‘Go nowhere among the Gentiles, and
enter no town of the Samaritans, but go rather to the lost sheep of the house
of Israel. As you go, proclaim the good news, “The kingdom of heaven has come
near.” Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. You
received without payment; give without payment. Take no gold, or silver, or
copper in your belts, no bag for your journey, or two tunics, or sandals, or a
staff; for labourers deserve their food. Whatever town or village you enter,
find out who in it is worthy, and stay there until you leave. As you enter the
house, greet it. If the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it; but if it
is not worthy, let your peace return to you. If anyone will not welcome you or
listen to your words, shake off the dust from your feet as you leave that house
or town. Truly I tell you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and
Gomorrah on the day of judgement than for that town.
‘See, I am sending
you out like sheep into the midst of wolves; so be wise as serpents and
innocent as doves. Beware of them, for they will hand you over to councils and
flog you in their synagogues; and you will be dragged before governors and
kings because of me, as a testimony to them and the Gentiles. When they hand
you over, do not worry about how you are to speak or what you are to say; for
what you are to say will be given to you at that time; for it is not you who
speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. Brother will betray
brother to death, and a father his child, and children will rise against
parents and have them put to death; and you will be hated by all because of my
name. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. When they persecute you
in one town, flee to the next; for truly I tell you, you will not have gone through
all the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.

From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the
dead.

Endue thy Ministers with righteousness;
And make thy chosen people joyful.

And bless thine inheritance.
Give peace in our time, O Lord;
And evermore mightily defend us.
O God, make clean our hearts within us;
And take not thy Holy Spirit from us.

in your compassion you reach out to the lost and
helpless.
Continue this work through us,
so that your reign of justice and peace may increase;

Collect for Peace
O GOD, who art the
author of peace and lover of concord,
in knowledge of whom standeth our eternal life, whose service is perfect
freedom: Defend us thy humble servants
in all assaults of our enemies; that we, surely trusting in thy defence, may
not fear the power of any adversaries; through the might of Jesus Christ our
Lord. Amen.
Collect for Grace
O LORD our heavenly
Father, Almighty and everlasting God,
who hast safely brought us to the beginning of this day: Defend us in the same
with thy mighty power; and grant that this day we fall into no sin, neither run
into any kind of danger; but that all our doings may be ordered by thy
governance, to do always that is righteous in thy sight; through Jesus Christ
our Lord. Amen.
Sermon
116 Thy
Kingdom Come On Bended Knee Irish
"Your
kingdom come" -- on bended knee
the
passing ages pray;
and faithful
souls have yearned to see
on
earth that kingdom's day.
But
the slow watches of the night
not
less to God belong,
and
for the everlasting right
the
silent stars are strong.
And
lo, already on the hills
the
flags of dawn appear.
Gird
up your loins, ye prophet souls,
proclaim
the day is near:
the
day in whose clear-shining light
all
wrong shall stand revealed,
when
justice shall be throned with might,
and
every heart be healed:
when
knowledge, hand in hand with peace,
shall
walk the earth abroad --
the
day of perfect righteousness,
the promised day of God.

O Lord God Almighty,
who rulest the nations of the earth, we humbly beseech thee with thy favour to
behold our Sovereign Lady, Queen Elizabeth, that in all things she may be led
thy guidance and protected by thy power.
We pray thee also to bless all the Royal Family. Endue with wisdom the Governor-General of

call themselves Christians may be led into the way of truth, and hold the faith
in unity of spirit, in the bond of peace, and in righteousness of life. Finally we commend to thy fatherly goodness
all those, who are any ways afflected or distressed in mind, body, or
estate; [I will not place our

We know who we pray
for each week. Rest assured that your
loved ones continue in our prayers.] that it may please
thee to comfort and relieve them, according to their several necessities,
giving them patience under their sufferings, and a happy issue out of all their

A General Thanksgiving
Almighty God, Father of all mercies, We thine unworthy servants do give
thee most humble and hearty thanks For all thy goodness and loving-kindness To
us and to all people. We bless thee for
our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; But above all
for thine inestimable love In the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus
Christ; For the means of grace, And for the hope of glory. And we beseech thee, give us that due sense
of all thy mercies, That our hearts may be unfeignedly thankful, And that we
show forth thy praise, Not only with our lips, but n our lives; By giving up
ourselves to thy service, And by walking before thee in holiness and
righteousness all our days; Through Jesus Christ our Lord To whom, with thee
and the Holy Ghost, be all honour and glory, world without end. Amen.
A Prayer of Saint Chrysostom
ALMIGHTY God, who
hast given us grace at this time with one accord to make our common supplications unto thee; and dost
promise that when two or three are gathered together in thy Name thou wilt
grant their requests: Fulfil now, O
Lord, the desires and petitions of thy servants, as may be most expedient for
them; granting us in this world
knowledge of thy truth, and in the world
to come life everlasting. Amen.
2 Corinthians 13. 14
THE grace of our
Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Ghost, be with us all evermore. Amen.
594 Lead Us, Heavenly Father, Lead Us
Lead us, heavenly Father, lead us
o'er the world's tempestuous sea;
guard us, guide us, keep us, feed us,
for we have no help but thee;
yet possessing every blessing,
if our God our Father be.
Saviour, breathe forgiveness o'er us:
all our weakness thou dost know;
thou didst tread this earth before us,
thou didst feel its keenest woe;
lone and dreary, faint and weary,
through the desert thou didst go.
Spirit of our God, descending,
fill our hearts with heavenly joy,
love with every passion blending,
pleasure that can never cloy:
thus provided, pardoned, guided,
nothing can our peace destroy.
Go Now in
